All too often a special event passes, the details are soon forgotten, and only a faded memory of the event remains. You spend a year or more planning and dreaming about your wedding day, yet it's over in just a few short hours. While your photo album will capture some of the important moments of the day, what about that special song you danced to, or those meaningful vows you spoke? The best way to keep those memories alive and to ensure you'll never forget them is with a video. A video is not only an overview of your wedding day; it's a way of sharing your special day with family and friends who were unable to attend.

Will you remember saying the words, "With this ring, I thee wed"? Many brides and grooms don't remember these details. After spending thousands of dollars on your wedding, aren't these details important enough to capture them on video as to remember them the way they actually occurred? Unfortunately, many people miss out on the benefits of a professional video when they decide to let Uncle Charlie videotape their wedding. Many couples think: Uncle Charlie can do it for free. Well there are many things that can be done for free, but are the inherent risks on one of the most important days of your life worth the savings?

Despite that Uncle Charlie is a good man and means well, he is not a professional, and therefore may not know exactly what to film or how to film it, not to mention that he may be more interested in talking with family and friends. Most couples who take this "more economical" route are usually disappointed with the results and will never be able to relive those lost moments.

Professionals have videotaped so many weddings that they know exactly what shots are needed and at what angle, they don't get distracted, they simply get the job done. The video they produce usually comes with music to set the mood of the event. Growing-up photos can be displayed with titles; animations or computer graphics help to keep the movie exciting. Professionals also have the equipment that's needed to get the best audio. I'm told there's nothing quieter than a bride saying, "I do", and professional audio equipment can capture that. When you receive your finished wedding video, you are actually receiving a video album, well worth every penny.

If you don't know what to look for when shopping around for a videographer, ask them "Are you a full-time videographer?" Full-timers are professional and rely on their craft for their livelihood (unlike a part-timer, who has another job to fall back on). A professional, full-time videographer tends to maintain a better level and quality of equipment, and is able to invest more time in editing. Make sure they are using 3-chip digital cameras. With digital equipment there is no quality loss during the editing process. Digital is the best format for converting to DVD. But even more important than the equipment is the person operating it. Don't be afraid to ask the videographer about past experiences. Ask to see a demo of their work.

The benefits of using a professional are far greater than using Uncle Charlie for free. Not only will you have a nice video album that people will admire, but your Uncle Charlie will be happy he was able to relax and talk with relatives he hasn't seen in years.
